Clear Care’s Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution is difficult to find and I have to wonder if it’s because it works too well. I’ve worn contacts for most of my life and in the decade since I switched to soft lenses (not throw-aways), I’ve used all sorts of cleaners. None come close to working like this solution does.
I normally go through two pair a year because the daily solutions slowly allow build-up of little white (uncomfortable) specks on the lenses. With this cleaner used almost daily, I wore one pair for nearly a year and a half before I noticed any build-up. I switched to my spare pair three months ago and until finding it on Amazon, have been without this cleaner. Finding it here will save me a lot of money.
(I did get an eye check a few months ago, and my optometrist thinks highly of this product.)
I haven’t read the directions lately, but I think the recommendation is to use this once a week or so. Using it nightly did not hurt the lenses in the slightest, and it more than pays for itself.
By day, I’ve found that Costco’s inexpensive Kirkland no-rub solution works just fine.

I have sensitive eyes + wear monthly contacts (those made for 30 day use) and this solution is by far the best. Been using it for about 12 months now – cleans very well so I feel zero discomfort all day (wear my contacts for 12 hours a day sometimes). With the Bausch/Lomb, by day 30, my contacts are so grimy it really hurt to put them on. With this solution, they feel brand new even at day 30. Following the directions on the box is pretty easy. Highly recommended for anyone who has extended wear contacts (i.e. weekly/monthly).

Before I tried this solution I had been using Renu MultiPurpose, Renu No-Rub, and various other contact lens solutions. The whole “rubbing” routine didn’t do it for me, and some minute particle always seemed to get in the lens somehow. I came across this contact lens solution by chance and decided to try it, and I was glad I did.
Throw away everything you ever learned about cleaning your contact lenses, because this is not the traditional contact lens solution that you’re used to. While your throwing away things, throw away the negative reviews below, because those people didn’t follow the directions.
First, you will find that the solution comes with a small plastic bottle with two slots where you insert your contact lenses. These are little trays which holds your lenses in place vertically within the small cylinder. Next, once you’ve filled the cylinder with the solution to the fill line, you insert the tray-holder inside. It immediately starts to bubble – evidence that the cleaning solution is working. You have to keep your lenses in there for 6 hours (or overnight, which is what I do).
If you keep your lenses in there for at least 6 hours, which is what the directions say, the solution buffers and the pH is about the same as the pH of the tears from your eyes. Never – and I mean NEVER EVER – use the solution like you would with other no-rub or standard solutions or it will burn your eyes. This solution is almost the same as peroxide!
If your looking for a thoroughly cleaning solution, then look no further. This is the most advanced cleaning system for contact lenses on the market, and this solution leaves no room for microbial growth to occur. The bubbling that you see in the cylinder is proof of this. I go a whole day without ever needing to re-wet my contact lenses, and I wear my lenses (Acuvue Oasys) from 10am to 11pm. If your eyes burn when you use this solution, then YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!

I switched from the standard multipurpose solution a few months ago at the recommendation of my optometrist. I was having dryness and stinging occasionally. The switch definitely helped. The lenses are extremely comfortable when inserted in the morning, with no rinsing needed. The lenses stay fresh throughout the month of their intended use.
Supposedly, peroxide cleaning is recommended for the newer silicone hydrogel contacts, since they absorb the chemicals in the other solutions which can cause a reaction. In peroxide type systems, after neutralization you are left with a balanced saline solution with no preservatives, which is much easier on your eyes.
It’s amazing how many people don’t read directions and ignore the warnings ALL OVER the packaging about getting un-neutralized peroxide in your eyes, then blame the manufacturer and give negative reviews.
As long as you follow directions you will be satisfied with this product. There are 2 disadvantages to be aware of: 1- after neutralizing you can’t leave the lenses more than 48 hrs as the solution is unpreserved– therefore you must disinfect again. 2- when traveling or under certain circumstances you may want to be able to soak your lenses for a shorter time then begin using them again (like after swimming). You can’t use Clean Care because of the minimum 6 hr wait. So hold on to the flat case and have a spare bottle of multipurpose solution on hand. Also have a bottle of saline for the occasional rinse (like if there is a particle on the lens).

I’ve been wearing contacts for 10 years, and have had mild seasonal allergies for 2 years. (Acuvue OASYS, change bi-weekly.)
One day, I woke up and my eyes barely opened, tears were oozing out and it looked like I’d been crying for weeks on end. I staggered to the drugstore, and the pharmacist gave me antihistamine eye drops. That helped, but not totally: My eyes still showed some persistent, low-level irritation every day.
Paranoid about eye infections and allergies, I consulted a doctor. Applying Occam’s razor, the doc recommended simply switching solutions. I bought every contact lens solution on the shelf at my local CVS. Clear Care seemed really annoying, so it was the last one I tried.
HOWEVER – I noticed the change in my eyes immediately, and have stuck with Clear Care ever since. My eyes are actually clear every day, I use fewer rewetting drops each day, and there’s been no need for antihistamine eye drops.
I highly recommend Clear Care if you’ve been having inexplicable problems with your lenses. (e.g. Getting ‘em in without a stinging sensation, allergy eyes, dry eye.)
For me, the extra cost of Clear Care should eventually be offset by the savings on the “peripherals” – especially rewetting drops. However, I have kept one travel-sized bottle of “normal” solution for unexpected naps, and a little bottle of lubricant drops for each lens before inserting.
P.S. Comparing price-per-ounce, I think the twin-packs available at Wal-Mart and CostCo come in as the cheapest.

My right eye is very sensitive compares to my left eye. The irritation can go really bad as soon as I put on my lenses and the condition can lasts for all day long- even several hours after I take them off. I’ve tried “Aquify”, “Bausch & Lomb Sensitive Eyes” and “opti-free” (my optometrist strongly recommended it to me), non of them worked.
I started to convince myself that the main problem comes from my own eye, so there’s no way to find a solution that works for me. But surprisingly, I’m wrong. This solution rocks! It’s the first time I feel completely comfortable with my lenses, my eyes don’t dry out like before, and I can wear my lenses for all day long without having any irritation.
It’s worth trying if you have irritated eyes like me, I highly recommend it!

I have worn rigid gas permeable lens for nearly 20 years. Until recently, I used cleaning and disinfecting solutions made by Bausch & Lomb (primarily) or Boston. I was satisfied with those solutions, and did not think they irritated my eyes. However, I did always have an issue that I thought was unavoidable, where if I put in my contacts too early in the morning right after getting up, often one or both lenses would cloud up and I would have to take them out, try to rinse them or clean them again, and put them back in again. Sometimes this would happen repeatedly all morning or even all day.
I would not have considered switching solutions, except that the cost of the Bausch & Lomb and Boston (now owned by Bausch & Lomb) solutions keeps going up, and that prompted me to try the Clear Care solution as a potentially less expensive alternative. It is hard to compare the Clear Care to B&L on a cost basis, because the Clear Care solution is a lot cheaper by the ounce, but you use more of it. I would say that the overall cost is roughly comparable. However, I have found the Clear Care solution to be far superior to B&L in terms of ease of use and how well it cleans my lenses, so I wouldn’t mind even if it did cost a little more.
Ease of use: I just take my lenses out, put them in the special case, and fill it with solution (I use a little less than the instructions say, because I am cheap). The instructions suggest that with rigid gas permeable lenses, you should rub them a little with some solution, but I don’t bother, and they come out perfectly clean. The only potential drawback is that you must wait 4-6 hours before the disinfecting/neutralizing cycle is done before you can wear your lenses again, but that has not been an issue for me. In the morning, I take the lenses straight out of the case and put them in my eyes — no rinsing needed. Definitely fewer steps and easier to use than B&L. I find that each 12 oz. bottle of Clear Care lasts me 5-6 weeks.
Effectiveness of cleaning: My lenses are much cleaner than they were before! The problem that I used to have with my lenses early in the morning has completely disappeared, and my lenses are more comfortable than they have ever been, just like new lenses. I had no idea that a contact lenses cleaner could be so effective.
Highly recommended!

After having difficulties with my contacts, I was advised to use this product. It works fantastic – easy to use and keeps my contacts fresh and like new for weeks. I can actually extend their use to two months instead of two weeks.

This product is the reason I can wear contacts again. (I wear 2wk disposables). I had months and months of eye problems…even missed work and couldnt drive. My eye Dr finally figured out it was the preservatives in the Alcon Optifree products I had been using – which I had used for years. Well, they changed their product and my eyes freaked out about it. Thought I’d have to wear glasses forever and I hate glasses. I LOVE clear care!

My first two years with contacts were relatively miserable- my eyes were in a constant state of mild irritation due to my contact solution. I tried Bausch and Lomb and Opti-Free, and neither were any good. Then a friend turned me on to Clear Care. This solution is amazing! Sometimes my 2-week contacts last for a full three weeks – with no loss of comfort! Clear Care starts out as hydrogen peroxide (h2o2), which disinfects and cleans the contacts, and slowly turns into water (h2o). Watching the bubbles of oxygen produced during the reaction is mesmerizing! And in the end, the only thing going into your eyes once the solution is done cleaning is water – it is incredibly comfortable!
